Grace

Back at university - one of many years for this eternal scholar - one of our lecturers thought us a very dear lesson that has since been engraved in my mind: Grace (in manners and under pressure), tact and Romanitas (stiff upper lip in the face of misfortune) are three virtues we should strive to have. Regrettably, tact I do not have, grace I do not show, Romanitas I do not know.

On the other hand, I can acknowledge and appreciate either of these when I see them.

So here is today's picture: Grace... unaffected, unadulterated, pure grace in the peaceful poise of a swan.

This has to be the most elegant thing I've seen in ages.

The title is perfect too.
Suby & Sinem: Thanks, Chloe, I do agree with you - I haven't seen anything so elegant in ages myself.
uhmmm... looking forward to seeing ur take on tact and Romanitas grin a good shot and this frame i like (u can hardly go wrong with black or white frames). maybe could have done with some processing (contrast and saturation)
Suby & Sinem: Thanks for visiting, Deji. Hummmm..... Yep, grace take will be a hard act to follow. smile

beautiful picture - nice accompanying words - pity that bird flu has just hit our shores - did you mean to post this - or is it just an untimely mosfortune -

The picture is amazing - you have a real simplicity to your phtos that make them so appealign - looking forward to your next post -
Suby & Sinem: I did mean to post this as I took this shot only last week and was at the time contemplating the miserable fate of some of these beautiful creatures.
Thanks for visiting and your knid words. Sinem

what a beautiful bird. you have captured it perfectly. swans always look a little forlorn to me.
Suby & Sinem: They do look forlorn, don't they?
Thanks for the visit and the comment.
Beautiful shot and perfect title.
Suby & Sinem: Thank you, Ashish.

nice shot Sinem. Wonder if you tried to see how it would look in b&w?
Suby & Sinem: Thank you for visiting, Shailja. I did try it in b&w, didn't work for me. Who knows I might just put up another swan shot in b&w one of these days smile

I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Being a bird lover... this is a great swan shot, the way she's tilting her head for you. VERY good.
Suby & Sinem: Thank you, Jill. Yeah, this one was a great poser indeed.
Ravishing smile
Suby & Sinem: Taking that as a compliment, shall I? wink

Wow, this is gorgeous! The bending of the neck is perfect. Also loved your intro about the virtues smile.
Suby & Sinem: Thank you, Ella. Regarding the virtues, I remember them but do not exactly adhere to them myself smile

If anything wrong that can be said here is the over exposure of the ody of the swam, but I know its not that easy.
Suby & Sinem: Thank you, Shuva.
Great composition.
Suby & Sinem: Thanks, Jide.

Surely this beautiful swam shows a stiff upper lip as well. Hard to imagine you as the eternal student. I ended up with 29 years of formal education . . .

Like the bird though I have some negatives.... I can always tell what your pictures will look like without even logging to the blog - green hue background, with an animal object of some sort in the background, frankly finding it a little bit boring (too traditional). Take some risks in your pictures, think outside the norm, change the backgrounds or overall composition or even the color.
Suby & Sinem: Sister, take it easy. Oh well, wait until you see what I got from my City Centre excursion. Come back for another visit tomorrow, you won't be disappointed - well maybe with the picture but not with predictability. I am taking risks, you know smile

How did you get so close to the swan? Nice composition, with the curved neck and all.
Suby & Sinem: Literally standing on the edge of water - squatting rather, but it was well worth it!

I like swans..... but they are not all grace, they can be nasty critters.
Suby & Sinem: I have not come across a nasty one before, but next time I decide to get that close, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for visiting.

He/she is posing for you, great shot smile
And I really liked your words, they go along perfect with this photosmile
Suby & Sinem: Thank you, I agree, she/he is beautiful.
A total poser as well...
Grace, tact, Romanitas... Great virtues to strive for smile
You know what, Sinem? I just got into a small little fight with some people and I realized that I don't have Grace and I probably don't have tact. Oh, who am I kidding? I don't have Romanitas either. That said, I don't think I'm a heartless bastard. Anyway, nice shot. It's a tad overexposed on the body, but it's so difficult to get the exposure just right on these birds. Regards, Brent
Suby & Sinem: Hey, Brent, not to worry, cause I ain't any better off than you on the grace/tact/Romanitas count. Nope, you definitely do not come across as a heartless bastard. Thanks for your visit and comment, much appreciated.
