Chilling

Hi folks, Suby here.

Seems I have gone monochrome crazy, okay I have to admit, I love monochrome shots. For me it just makes the image more of a "classic" and it stand out more. Also shooting for Black & White can make you a better photographer, with no colour to focus your attention on, you need to think more about the light and shadow, composition, contrast, shape and texture - the essential elements of black & white photography, mastery of which will also transform your colour shots.

I took this shot this afternoon during my lunch break. Couple of work mates where enjoying the warm weather and gladly allowed me the to snap snap snap (think they are now inclined to just accept Suby & his camera on Fridays). I took this shot from this angle on purpose, sort of appealed to me, like the fact the where in deep conversation.

Had fun converting this to monochrome.

Lesson: The Channel Mixer emulates the effect of the conventional black & white filters by enabling you to adjust the Red, Blue & Green channels.

So what do you guys think of the shot & editing?

I like this a lot. Wonderful contrast. I was surprised to read that they are work colleagues. The composition has a sort of college-y feel to me.

I really like it Suby. The lighting is great. The shadows fall perfectly into place, and the composition gives the photo a very private feel.

I like this shot Suby. My only complaint is that the girls hair is so dark that it becomes a bit of a distraction. I don't know how you could fix that though, without having her facing the camera more (which would probably weaken the composition). I love your work though mate.

On another note; I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to check out my "Long Post" blog entry from a couple of days ago and give me your thoughts. I've been a touch discouraged with my photography lately and I'm looking for some ideas on how to move forward.

Lovely!Disagreeing with timmy I'd say the hair doesnt bother me because its B&W everything is either dark light of in between.Love the detail - perfect blurry background - it's just a very cool scene gotta say - they didnt mind you sneaking shots of them or were you sneaky enough to hide from view smile GREAT GREAT SHOT!

I too love B/W. I am also into B/W series since the last 2 weeks. I havent used the Chennel mixer so much, but your post tends to change my mind.

I think both the shot and editing are fantastic! My favorite is b&w too, for the reasons you stated. It really makes you work, makes you slow down and think about the shot.

I LOVE that they are so used to you and your camera.

Good shot, but...
I'm not diggin how the shadows are SOO dark. I know the person to the left is a girl looking over at the guy, but its just soo dark that its distracting.

Also, what is that BLOB of blurryness to the right of the guys foot? It looks like a circular blob.

I can see what you were trying to do, but for me, this doesn't work.

Great shot. When I do b&w I always adjust the channels. It really fine tunes what you want to show the most. I love it.

This is such a wonderful photo -- so easy going and tender. This would have been ok in colour and the bedroom (next picture) could have been b&w.
Great shot. I like the overexposure. The tones are wonderful. It's a very fine capture. Regards, Brent
